Happened upon an article in the NY Times featuring a book called "Mindless Eating" by Brian Wansink. Fascinating research that reveals that we eat untold amounts of food mindlessly by using wide glasses, large plates and keeping snacks at eye level in the cabinet. Click HERE to check it out.

Thanks for posting this, Shug! You're right! It is an interesting look at how and why we eat what we do. I've never really thought about eating in those terms or about why serving dishes/glasses/plates can have such a huge impact on the volume of food we eat. Have you or anyone you know read the book? The author's website is pretty interesting. I encouage everyone to check it out by clicking on the title of Shug's posting on the main page...
I just checked the book out of the library. So many books so little time! I'll pass on any useful tips I come up with.
Recently I've begun to notice that I'm irrationally hungry (or that I've been eating until I am stuffed:-/ I think it has something do with the long, cold, sunless days (and possibly sadness and greed). Rather than berate myself and/or focusing on not eating. I'm trying to move every day and to be conscious about what and when I'm eating.
